A FUN day to promote the help available to kidney patients and their families is to take place next week.

The event takes place at Knitsley Mill, near Consett in County Durham, on Sunday, August 18 starting at 10am.

Among the attractions will be a duck race, games and competitions, a free prize draw and adult bouncy castle, as well as advice for kidney patients and information on organ donation.

The event has been organised by the Tyneside Kidney Patients’ Association, which supports patients at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle, the largest renal unit in the North-east.

Many of the charity’s 900 members come from across County Durham and Teesside, who have to travel to the Freeman for treatment including dialysis.

Association member Vanessa Hardy said: "The event will offer support and advice and raise money for people with chronic kidney disease, but we also want to raise awareness that we have patients throughout the North-East who come into the Freeman."
