Stanmer Woods trashed after party say walkers
2:30pm Friday 9th August 2013 in News
Walkers say a beauty spot was left strewn with rubbish after an illicit party.
Brighton-based composer Guy Richardson said he saw a clearing in Stanmer Woods strewn with bottles and used canisters during a walk on Sunday.
The 63-year-old said he was “furious”
to see the beauty spot left in such a state.
He said: “After clearing up the site we saw four young lads in a nearby field where it seems they had slept overnight.
“There were a load of canisters on the floor, I think they may have been sniffing something out of them.
“We also found a set of house keys so someone must have been annoyed when they got home.
“I love going to Stanmer Woods but I always take a plastic bag to pick up litter.”
A Sussex Police spokesman said: “Police were alerted to a large gathering of people at High Park Farm, Ditchling Road, Brighton, on Sunday, August 4, at 12.30am who were organising a rave.
“They were playing loud music but were given 30 minutes by officers to close it down at 1.15am.
“By 2am the event had closed. There were no complaints.”
