Officers trying to trace two men in Palace Pier rape investigation
A 24-year-old woman was raped by a stranger underneath the Palace Pier.
The woman was found distressed near the Brighton landmark at about 3.10am on Saturday. She was taken to the nearby Audio night club in Marine Parade and a member of staff – concerned for her welfare – called Sussex Police.
Officers from CID are now desperately trying to trace two men who left Oceana club in West Street, Brighton, with her and her sister about two hours before she was attacked.
These men, who she met that night are not being treated as suspects.
But police believe they could hold key information about how she came to be underneath the pier with the man who raped her.
A Sussex Police statement said: “The victim had been on a night out when she became separated from her and two men they had met earlier in the evening in the Oceana nightclub.
“All four left the club at around 1.20am. However, sometime between 2am and 3.10am the victim found herself under the pier with a man she did not know who attacked her before running off towards the Brighton Wheel.
”Detective Constable Aran Boyt added: "This was a very distressing end to what was a fun night out in Brighton. We need to find the person responsible for this nasty assault as a matter of urgency.
"Officers will be continuing with local enquiries and viewing CCTV from the area in a bid to trace the victim's movements after she left the company of her sister and the other two men."If you have any information, no matter how relevant you think it is, please get in touch.
"I would also like the two men, who the sisters left the nightclub with, to please get in touch as I believe they may be able to help us trace the victim's movements prior to the rape."
The suspect is described as black, in his late 20s, 5ft 5ins and of average build, with short/shaved black hair. He spoke with a London accent.
At the time of the attack he was clean shaven and was wearing black hooded zip-up top, dark jeans and black boot trainers.
