Sex assault investigation at Worthing Hospital
A hospital worker has been suspended following allegations of a sexual assault on a patient.
The member of staff, based at Worthing Hospital, was arrested and is now on police bail while officers carry out further investigations.
The allegations involving a female patient who had come to the hospital at the end of last month.
The member of staff is due to answer bail in the next six weeks.
A Sussex Police spokesman said: “A 33-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault by touching, following an incident at Worthing Hospital on July 31.
“The hospital called police at 11.30pm to report that a 49-year-old woman had complained to them that a male member of staff had hugged and kissed her and touched her chest over her clothing.
“Officers arrested a man at his home address on August 1. He has been bailed until September 23 pending further enquiries.
The hospital is run by Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
A trust spokesman said: “Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust can confirm that a member of Worthing Hospital staff has been arrested by Sussex Police.
“The member of staff will not be working at the trust whilst the police conduct their investigation.
“The trust is cooperating fully with the police enquiry but is unable to make any further comment while the investigation is ongoing.”
