WEYMOUTH RESERVES 5 SWANAGE TOWN & HERSTON 1

STRIKER Carl McClements came in for special praise for Terras’ boss Jake Richmond after the hosts produced a superb performance to thrash the Swans at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

Weymouth sauntered to their first win of the season in the Bespoke Teamwear Dorset Premier League thanks to Sean Zima’s hat-trick and goals from Louis Smith and Luke Chatterton.

And while Richmond was delighted with all of his players on the night it was McClements who caught the eye the most.

“In such a good team performance it’s hard to single anyone out but I thought Carl was the man of the match,” said Richmond, whose side entertains Merley Cobham tomorrow (3pm).

“He was superb, worked his socks off, set up goals and was a good target man for the rest of the team.

“Carl showed what sort of player he can be and moved up a level from the first game.

“He was outstanding and the boys have got confidence in playing the ball up to him knowing he can do something with it.”

He went on: “Everybody was on their game and we played well for large periods.

“We had a decent result last Saturday but the performance wasn’t very good – I can’t fault anyone after that performance against Swanage. I told the players to enjoy it but it’s only one game and we’ve got to get ready for Saturday now.”

Smith made it 1-0 on 22 minutes with a close-range finish before Zima doubled the lead from the edge of the box.

Zima added a third with 20 minutes left and then completed his hat-trick after great work from Smith.

The Swans pulled one back from the spot but Chatterton made amends for missing a few gilt-edged chances to make it 5-1 late on.

Elsewhere tomorrow, Portland United are without Ryan McKec-hnie and Will Gould for their away game at Holt United.

Ross Carmichael and Simon Crouch return to Gary Bailey’s squad and there is a chance Andy Harris could feature.

“Holt are a bit of an unknown quantity this season having changed manager during the summer and brought in quite a few new players,” said Bailey.

“We will go there well prepared and expecting a tough examination.”
