A man has been bailed after being arrested on suspicion of rape in Brighton on Wednesday morning (August 21).
Police were called to Brighton beach, near to Coalition nightclub, at 3am where a 20-year-old man from Brighton reported he had been raped by another man.
A 32-year-old man from London was arrested and has been bailed until 22 October while investigations continue.
It is understood the two men had met elsewhere earlier on in the evening before going for a walk along the seafront where the rape reportedly took place, according to Sussex Police.
Staff at the nightclub in King’s Road, Brighton, which was not open at the time of the incident, were unaware of any reports and did not wish to make any comment last night.
Chief Inspector Bruce Mathews from Sussex Police said: “Police here in Brighton will take all reports of rape seriously and in an incident such as this we will look to investigate, make arrests and prosecute if it is necessary.
“Thankfully incidents such as male rape are extremely rare but that does not mean to say it is treated any less seriously than female rape.
“We consider this type of incident to be as serious as any other case and along with other agencies, we will hopefully be able to provide support to any victims.”
Anyone who witnessed what happened or has any information is asked to contact Sussex Police on 101 quot ing serial 118 of 21/8.
