Swanning down the river for Shoreham Riverfest
5:00pm Tuesday 27th August 2013 in News
Twenty swans-a-swimming helped raise hundreds of pounds for charity.
The first swan race, which was part of Shoreham Riverfest, began at 11am on Sunday.
The model birds raced from the Harbour Club in Shoreham to Norfolk Bridge as crowds of spectators cheered them on.
The winning sponsor of the first bird to cross the finishing line won a hamper from local pie makers Higgidy. Each bird was sponsored for £50 and all proceeds will be donated to Chestnut Tree House.
Dave Samuel, swan race organiser, said: “We were delayed in starting due to the weather but once it was under way it was highly entertaining and a huge success.
“We’re hoping to bring it back next year and make it an annual event with double the number of swans next time.”
