Uckfield grandmother goes gliding
A 71-year-old grandmother with a fear of heights has completed her first tandem paraglide.
Hazel Cook, from Uckfield, was on holiday with her family in France when she mentioned doing a glide.
Mrs Cook said: “It was a spur of the moment decision. I have actually always been scared of heights – but for some reason this did not seem as daunting.”
Son-in-law Simon Cookdale said: “The campsite we stayed at was filled with colourful paraglide canopies.
“Bearing in mind that Hazel’s normal week is filled with such adrenaline filled pursuits as arranging the flowers in the local Methodist church, we were all somewhat taken aback when she announced that she would like to have a go at paragliding herself.”
Mrs Cook completed the glide accompanied by her husband Bernie, Mr Cookdale and her five grandchildren aged two to eight.
Mrs Cook said: “The flight was absolutely brilliant. The views were glorious and I was not scared at all.”
The flight has given Mrs Cook new confidence – she has since walked over the glass at Spinnaker Tower.
