Queens Park goes green again
11:06am Wednesday 11th September 2013 in News
Visitors to Queens Park may have trouble telling the pond from the trees, judging by these pictures.
Algae has left a thin green carpet across the pond in Queens Park, Brighton, leaving the water feature resembling a bowling green.
The green phenomenon is caused by the waste of gulls and pigeons getting into the water supply, creating a perfect breeding ground for duckweed and blanket weed.
It is left to volunteers to clear hundreds of kilos of weed, which lowers water quality and causes pond creatures to die.
