A lorry carrying compost has overturned on the A27, causing massive delays.

Sussex Police and East Sussex Fire and Rescue confirmed that the HGV overturned at the Beddingham roundabout, near Lewes, shortly after 7am.

A Sussex Police spokeswoman said there was significant delays building up and it was likely that the lorry would take much of the day to move.

She said: "The Beddingham roundabout on the A27 is blocked by an overturned lorry.

"Emergency services were called at 6.50am to the report that the articulated lorry had rolled and was blocking the carriageway.

"No other vehicles were involved and the driver suffered a injury to his arm.

"The lorry is carrying compost and recovery is expected is last most of the day. Traffic is being directed around the lorry in a contraflow and motorists are being asked to avoid the area if possible."

A contraflow traffic flow system is set to be put in place.

On Twitter a witness said: “Apparently there's an overturned HGV on A27 at Beddingham causing huge delays; next to sign that says Eastbourne-Lewes just 20min by train!”

Significant traffic problems are also affecting the westbound carriageway of the A27. 

A serious collision has blocked the carriageway at the Bognor Bridge roundabout.

Emergency services were called at 7.20am this morning to a collision between two vans. Both drivers suffered serious, but not believed to be life threatening, injuries.

The collision is causing problems for westbound traffic.

There is a broken down bus is also causing delays at the Causeway in Arundel.

Drivers are asked to leave plenty of time for their journeys and use alternative routes if possible.
