FREE Sunday parking will be available to Kendal’s town centre shoppers in the run-up to Christmas.

South Lakeland District Council’s offer will apply in all of its pay and display car parks during the four weeks before Christmas (1, 8, 15 and 22 December).

Shoppers will also benefit from a change to parking charges at the Westmorland Shopping Centre on October 26-7 to celebrate the Centre’s 25th birthday.

During this weekend the parking machines will be altered to allow 25 minutes extra parking.

An addition is that between the period of 7pm and 11pm on October 26 the Westmorland Shopping Centre car park will be free of charge to people attending the Kendal Live fundraising event.

SLDC will also offer a £1.20 flat rate at all its pay and display car parks in Kendal (including the Westmorland Shopping Centre) for the Christmas light switch on November 17.

Councillor Giles Archibald, Portfolio Holder for Town Centres and Small Business, said: “Through our free Sunday parking we hope to spread festive cheer for seasonal shoppers.

“By creating special rates for events we want to help shoppers but also we are supporting our local businesses at a particularly important trading time.”
