The word comedian never seems quite encompassing enough for Bill Bailey.

His extraterrestrial grasp of vocabulary sees words fall out of his mouth like poetic prose.

His incredible intelligence makes him educational as well as hysterical.

And the talented multi-instrumentalist’s multi-media show, set between five trees which, with an impressive array of lights, created the tone for every sentence he spoke, is a visual spectacular in itself.

In Qualmpeddler he takes a stroll through modern life, analysing the problems in the world with a unique spoonful of wisdom in the laugh-a-minute two-part show.

His bordering-on-bitter and sarcastic remarks about social media, a seeming obsession with Chantelle and observations about politics age him beyond quirky to also encompass wise.

At one point he resembled a nutty professor – his frizzy lengths of grey hair glinting in the spotlights as he ecstatically doubled over on stage, claiming his lack of a daily banana – and the resulting reduced electrolyte function in his brain – is what caused him to fluff a joke.

Despite confessing to be “too old for this s***” as his thoughts leapt from the curious to the strange, he bounced around on stage, never appearing to tire.

And his ingenious mixing of dub-step and reggae into the Downtown Abbey theme tune with an incredible accompanying graphic proved – thankfully – that he is definitely not past it yet.
