Six teenagers have taken part in a litter pick at Woodside Playing Fields.

The litter pick was organised at a "Y Team Youth Project" which is a partnership run between YMCA Watford and Youth Connexions. The group of 13 to 19-year-olds meet weekly at the Orbital Community Centre in north Watford to plan and deliver community projects in the area.

To prepare for the litter pick they planned their route, created their own risk assessment and used a "Community Clean Up Kit" from Watford Borough Council. They met at the community centre and made their way to the playing fields where they collected four full bags of litter including potentially dangerous items including glass bottles, a car hub cap and a sheet of metal.

Ryan, 14, said: "I really enjoyed working with the group to make Woodside a safer place for children to play and we enjoyed cleaning up our community."

The young people enjoyed the experience so much that they have created a rota and will be doing a litter pick around the outside area of the Orbital Community Centre every Wednesday when they meet for the project on between 7pm and 9pm. The young people are also keen to do more litter picks in the future and have spoken about organising them closer to the residential areas where they live around Boundary Way.
