A young filmmaker is making giant strides to stardom after directing a popular band’s new music video.

Liam Hooper, 19, from Brighton, teamed up with pop rockers Scouting for Girls to film a special 11-minute music video for a track on their new EP – Make That Girl Mine.

The talented former Brit School student wrote to the band last year to share his ideas for a new production before being asked to meet them in person.

The video for the song – Rains in LA – was filmed in Brighton, London and Los Angeles in March this year.

Creative Liam said: “It’s an 11-minute short film-come-music video so it’s a bit of a hybrid. It follows a couple who live in London, where the girl wants to head off to LA to follow her dreams as an actress.

“He isn’t so keen and just wants to stay put, so they split up and it documents what happens afterwards.

“We filmed over about a month in Brighton, London and LA too. I oversaw the project as a producer and worked with two other guys from the Brit School, Mark Stewart and Mikey Fendick.”

Liam raised more than $2,000 in production costs via an online fundraising website before recruiting a crew of production staff at the Raindance Film Festival.

But it's not the first time the production-whizz has seen cinematic success with famous clientele.

Last year his horror-comedy Darkwood Manor, featuring TV funnyman Steve Coogan, was named best student film at the British Horror Film Festival.

His latest creative offering, however, has been available on iTunes since Monday as part of the release of Scouting for Girls new EP.

Liam added: “The band were such nice, sweet guys and very down to earth. It was a pleasure working with them.

“It’s definitely my biggest production to date.

“Myself, Mark and Mikey, plus another guy called Lloyd Cook, have since formed a production company called 2050 films.

“I’m really looking forward to see what the future brings.”

The Rains in LA video premiere takes place at the King and Queen pub in Marlborough Place, Brighton, on December 1 at 7pm.

The event will feature an intimate acoustic gig and a question and answer session from Scouting for Girls, plus stand-up comedy from David Whitney.
