Traffic wardens dished out 24 tickets in the first two days of a freshly enforced parking scheme.

Brighton and Hove City Council wardens began enforcing yellow line pavement parking in Elm Grove on Tuesday.

Motorists are given a £70 fine if parked on the residential street’s wide pavements in front of yellow lines.

Parking on the pavement is still permitted on parts of the route where there are no yellow lines.

A council spokesman confirmed 24 tickets were issued on Tuesday and Wednesday with police also dishing out three fixed penalty notices for obstruction.

Officers also warned someone about driving on the pavement.

He added: “Traders and residents have been expressing their appreciation.

“Bear in mind these are not new restrictions. They are longestablished restrictions we are enforcing properly for the first time.”
