A female paramedic suffered a fractured jaw after being attacked while responding to a medical emergency.

The female paramedic was kicked and punched in the face after being called out to reports of an unconscious woman.

A male paramedic was also punched in the chest but escaped serious injury in the incident emergency service personnel are calling “mindless”.

The South East Coast Ambulance Service worker had been called with a colleague to an off-licence at the junction of Norman Road and London Road in St Leonards at about 5.30pm on Thursday to reports of a woman lying unresponsive in the street.

But when the paramedics arrived at the scene they were attacked.

The female paramedic was taken to Conquest Hospital in St Leonards with a suspected fractured jaw and received several hours of treatment.

A 31-year-old woman from Bexhill was arrested on suspicion of assault and being drunk and disorderly.

She was questioned before being released on bail until December 30 while officers carry out further inquiries.
