An Argus Achievement Award-winning project is in the running to win £50,000 tonight – but they need your help.

The Exeter Street Hall team, which has already raised £180,000 to save the facility from being turned into flats, now needs money to fix the leaky roof.

The 129-year-old hall in Brighton was saved for community use earlier this year through a pioneering share scheme.

More than 800 shares priced from £50 each were sold, allowing the community to purchase the church hall.

In an attempt to reach the £50,000 needed to fix the roof, they have put themselves forward for the ITV People’s Millions TV competition. Good causes will go head-to-head tonight in a bid to secure votes from the public.

Campaign founder Paul Winter said: “This is a great opportunity for us to make sure the hall will be there for the community for many years to come.”

Each project has been given a phone number in which they need to attract as many votes as possible. The group with the greatest amonut of votes at the end of the night will win the cash.

Mr Winter added: “You’re allowed to vote 10 times from each phone so we are encouraging our supporters to do just that for us. It only costs 10p from a landline so that’s just £1 each.

“We’ve had such fantastic support over the last couple of years and we need it again now.”
