A 69-year-old serial flasher who exposed himself to Eastbourne police officers has been jailed for six weeks - and told to behave sensibly in the future.

Richard Stofer shocked Sussex officers when he undressed in front of them as they approached him on Eastbourne beach last year.

Initially, Stofer was given a suspended prison sentence after admitting one count of exposure at Lewes Crown Court, meaning he was spared jail.

But yesterday the pensioner appeared at Brighton Crown Court where he admitted harrasing his neighbours Doris and Nigel Randall.

The court heard how Stoffer - previously convicted of walking naked around the supermarket - put a pile of dog faeces in their garden in Milton Road, Eastbourne.

Rachel Becket, prosecuting, said the Randalls were both disabled and suffered problems with their health.

Since being tormented by Stofer - who does not work and is single - they have installed CCTV.

Trina Little, prosecuting, said he Stoffer had been medically assessed.

“He is one of life's eccentrics,” she admitted, adding: “He has expressed remorse.”

She said the harassment offence was “completely different” to the exposure offence, but Judge Paul Tain disagreed.

He said: “On a beach you imposed your physical self on people who did not want to see it. You imposed your will on your neighbours.”

Jailing him for six weeks, he added: “Behave yourself in a sensible way in your community. Keep out of trouble.”

Previously Stofer was caught sunbathing in see-through women's underwear in the shape of a heart lying with his legs wide apart.

In July 2006, police caught him lying naked in a neighbour's garden in Victoria Drive, Eastbourne, while she was out.
