Forget the Cliff Richard calendar for your Aunty Ruth or Uncle Dave - this unofficial offering of Argus bills should be top of any Christmas present list.

A creative reader of The Argus is hoping to cash in on Christmas by selling a calendar featuring the infamous headline bills from this newspaper.

Johnny Barnes, 24, is selling the 2014 calendar for £8.95 after spending four years living in the city observing the “hilarious” headlines.

Each month of the calendar boasts a different bill, including 'Council calls in counsellors to counsel councillors' for November, 'Bananaman rescued from roundabout' for May and 'John Lennons tooth on world tour' in January.

Dubbed the Unofficial Argus Calendar 2014, the creation promises to be the “perfect gift for devout Argus aficionados everywhere”.

Johnny, who now lives in London, said: “Seeing some of the headlines over the years was one of my favourite bits about living in Brighton.

“I found them hilarious and thought they perfectly showed the city's eccentricities and quirks.

“A couple of years ago I started uploading some of the headlines to Facebook and people seemed to like them and it escalated from there.

“Not everybody got to bask in the glory of the headlines first time round so hopefully this gives them a chance to see them and smile.”

Johnny described his calendar venture as a “journey into the complete unknown” and said he had “no idea” how many calendars he was expecting to sell.

But if the calendars prove lucrative, however, he has promised some of the proceeds will go towards an orphanage and school in Kerela, India.

He continued: “A close friend who tragically passed away recently had spent time at the Auxilium School in Kerela helping to teach underprivileged and orphaned children.

“If this makes a profit then first of all some of the proceeds will go towards supporting the school in his memory.

“I've also got a couple long suffering mates who have had to put up with me going on about making the calendar for as long as I can remember so if this does ok we'll go out for some food somewhere “We've sold a couple so far, so it's a good start.”
