Burglars broke into a bank and stole cash during a night raid.
Police received a report at 8.30am this morning that Barclays Bank in South Road, Haywards Heath, had been broken into at some point during the night.
Some coins had been taken from the tills area, which had been damaged by the thief or thieves during the theft.
Police believe entry was gained by forcing a door in an alleyway at the side of the bank.
Detective Sergeant Glenn Willcocks said; "We are keen to hear from anyone who was in the town centre overnight and who saw any suspicious activity around the bank or the adjacent roads.
"If you can help please contact us via 101 or email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk quoting serial 0223 of 4/12. You can also call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
