A talented chef has made it to the final of a popular television cooking show.

Steven Edwards, 26, from Horsham, will appear in the final week of MasterChef: the Professionals after four weeks of gruelling cooking tasks.

The dad-of-two, who is the head chef at the Camellia restaurant at South Lodge Hotel in Horsham, appeared on our screens on Tuesday night in a semi-final head-to-head showdown with fellow contestant Adam, 24.

The pair put their ability to the test during a bustling service at Heston Blumenthal’s Dinner restaurant – recently voted the seventh best in the world.

After cooking for judges Michel Roux Jr and Monica Galetti, the duo couldn’t be split and were both sent through to next week’s final.

Steven said: “It’s been a really good experience. “Dinner is fantastic and one of my favourite restaurants, so it was a real privilege cooking there.

“I felt no pressure going up against Adam because I think I was the underdog. I really rate him.”

Asked what his family thought of his TV escapades, the former Young Sussex Chef of the Year said: “I’ve been working at the restaurant for five days a week and was filming on my days off, so it’s nice for my two children and partner to be able to see what I’ve been up to.

“What’s important for me is that they can get an insight into my life while I’m away.

“The show’s given me a new confidence and belief in my own style of food.

“At the restaurant people are requesting to see me and talk to me about the food, which makes a change from just cooking it and seeing the last of it.”

The final week of MasterChef: the Professionals starts on Monday at 8.30pm on BBC2.
