A man was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after his car left the road and came to rest just feet from a cliff edge.
Police were called to South Coast Road, opposite Telscombe Tye, at about 3.45pm on Sunday.
Witnesses said the vehicle smashed through several concrete fence posts before coming to rest by the cliff's edge.
Police arrested a 48-year-old man who lives locally and coastguard officials used a winch to move the car away from the edge.
