Tap-dancing polar bears, glamorous show girls and singing reindeer – what’s not to like in Santa Claus The Musical at Worthing Pavilion Theatre?

It’s not quite a panto – there’s no dame or thigh-slapping lead boy, played by a girl. Instead there are plenty of well-known Christmas tunes worked into a tale of love and Christmas goodwill, perfect for children.

There is, of course, a villain – played with relish by Brookside star Claire Sweeney. She first appears amid a clap of thunder and flash of lightning dangling above the stage in an icy throne, looking sparkly and chilly as only an Ice Queen should.

The plot follows a lonely young girl who is longing for a happy Christmas after the death of her father. In the North Pole, Santa’s elves are busy getting ready for Christmas.

The two stories collide when the reindeer and Santa all get flu thanks to the Ice Queen, who is trying to cancel Christmas. Who will deliver the presents this year?

The show encompasses lots of well-known yuletide songs such as Rudolph The Red-nosed Reindeer and Jingle Bell Rock for all ages to enjoy. The lavish sets and well-choreographed dance scenes bring a lovely touch of festive luxury to a fun evening.
