Hove neighbours urge people to Share the Warmth with city's homeless by donating coats

Two neighbours have come together to help keep the homeless warm this festive period.

Jenny Barrett and Gaynor Williams, who live in Hove, are asking people to dig out their unused winter coats and jackets to give to those living on the streets.

The pair only dreamt up the Share the Warmth campaign a fortnight ago but have already gained the support of local business figures including the Big Beach Café in Hove Lagoon.

With the help of a team of volunteers and organisations including Albion in the Community, they will deliver goods to charities including Brighton Housing Trust, Off the Fence, Antifreeze, The Clocktower Sanctuary, and St John's Ambulance.

They also have permission from Southern Railway to collect coats at Brighton station tomorrowí.

The campaign has set-up a number of drop-off centres in Brighton, Hove, Lewes, and Portslade.

I never give homless people money if I see them with a dog ill give them dogfood and the homeless person some food.People are on the streets for all sorts of reasons we should not judge but help them but not by giving money that can be used for booze etc.I work full time and struggle with my rent,in B&H a studio costs the same as a large house up north, the new government scheme where you only need 5% depostit for a mortgage will help greedy landlords buy more properties to convert into pokey studio flats with a cheap mortgage but they charge massive rents. The government needs to tackle the prices of rented accommodation to help solve this homelessness.
