A Brighton supermarket is to open its doors on a new store built on the site of the former Lewes Road Community Garden.

Despite some opposition from locals, the ribbon will be cut on the Morrisons' new M Local shop in Lewes Road, Brighton tomorrow at 9am.

The shop, which will create 20 jobs, will be opened at 9am by pupils from Fairlight Primary School and Robert Griffiths, director of fundraising at the Martlets Hospice.

Store manager Paul Lockyer said: “Fresh food will be at the heart of what we sell, and as a team we will work hard to make sure our store is a positive addition to Lewes Road.”

The new store will be the second M Local to open in Brighton, following the launch of its convenience shop in Queen's Road earlier this year.
