Rush-hour traffic piled up after a three car crash on a busy road.
Emergency services were called to the incident on the A23 at Pyecombe, just north of Brighton, at about 7.10am this morning.
Officers said it blocked the northbound lane for a short while but the vehicles were cleared by 7.30am.
Witnesses said the tailbacks caused disruption to those trying to travel eastbound on the A23.
A police spokeswoman confirmed no one was injured in the incident.
