Christmas party to mark revamped Seven Dials roundabout

The Argus: Work on the roundabout earlier this year Work on the roundabout earlier this year

A Christmas celebration will mark the completion of changes to a notorious Brighton junction.

Contractors from Brighton and Hove City Council have spent months carrying out the improvements to Seven Dials.

To celebrate, a gathering will be held at 7pm tonight with short speeches from councillors and local residents followed by carol singing with the Dawn Chorus Choir from St Luke’s Church.

Shops have been encouraged to stay open late and members of the local community have organised a local shopping quiz with the opportunity to win prizes.

Changes include creating a longer oval traffic island to replace a mini-roundabout and installing new crossings while removing railings.

Many trees have also been planted to green the area, with new benches and cycle racks added.

Finally I can say that this is one road improvement that seems to help the flow of traffic whilst improving the area for everyone.

I am sure they are going to hold the party in the road just to impede the traffic one final time.............Mer

Yet more proof ( as if we need it) that this council is a total joke. Who on earth in their right minds would hold a 'Party' for the opening of a roundabout? How about using the money to re-imburse the local businesses who all saw a huge drop in footfall for the last 12 months while the council wasted a neat Million quid. USELESS, Get them out now!

£800,000 for THAT ???????????

The traffic flow is exactly as it was before - the only difference is that it's more dangerous for pedestrians. Complete waste of money and to then hold a party smacks of political propaganda.

How much is this party costing ? Let's say it's £1000 - drop the party and donate the money to a homeless charity.

Once more evidence that the council has too much money - both for the scheme and time taken (done to a very high finish and so expensive standard).

Stop the proposed 2% council tax increase - West Sussex have managed it - why not B&H?

a party for a round about !! ? if it wasn't so obscene it would be comical,
at a time when thousands of households across the city are struggling to make ends meet, this lot are presumably about to spend residents hard earned council tax contributions on a self-gratifying back slapping exercise,
mind you i don't know why i am so surprised they squandered up to £50,000 on consultants to look at the impact of cuts on the poor.... what planet are these people on ???????????????

Andy R it's not necessarily about money. It's the fact that a political party celebrate a roundabout when people would rather they got out onto the streets and did something useful such as help out at a soup kitchen.
Just another example of how close the green and blue parties are. Andy, the greens and the blues take the P out of people.
