A long-standing Hove community centre has celebrated its 25th anniversary.

Visitors to Hangleton Community Centre, Harmsworth Crescent, Hove were treated to a jubilant Christmas fair and live singing performance on Tuesday.

Among the crowd were Mayoress of Brighton and Hove Denise Cobb and ex-mayor Jim Buttimer, who attended the festivities with his wide Audrey.

Mr Buttimer opened Hangleton Community Centre almost exactly 25 years ago and was thrilled to receive a warm welcome.

More than 200 people attended over the course of the day and took part in free wreath-making, as well as line dancing and visiting Santa’s grotto.

Members of the community heard songs from the Singing for better Health group, FMT Liners and the Phoenix open faith community church, who operate from the centre.

Sandra Pacey, who manages the centre, said: “It was a great day, bringing together so many members of the community and letting everyone know that even after 25 years the centre is still going from strength to strength.

“Twenty-five years is a fantastic achievement and getting Jim Buttimer to attend was fabulous.”

Sandra presented the two mayors with a celebratory cake, which was cut and distributed around the crowd.

There were lots of unfamiliar faces present and staff are hoping that the event will raise community awareness of the centre.

Hangleton Community Centre is home to a number of local-run community groups such as The Children’s Society, Hangleton Community Association and Hangleton Holistics.

The centre is interested in getting involved with any events or groups that want to be of benefit to the Hangleton area.
