The Argus: Thieves steal £2,000 worth of children's toys from Eastbourne cafe Thieves steal £2,000 worth of children's toys from Eastbourne cafe

Heartless thieves broke into a café and stole £2,000 worth of children's toys leaving the owner devestated.

The intruders ripped off the shutters at Pistachios, in Princes Park, Eastbourne, and a brick was used to smash a window on Monday night between 9 and 11pm.

Some petty cash was also taken.

The nearby premises of Eastbourne Model Railway Society and Eastbourne Bowls Club were also broken into, but no property was taken.

Jayne Roberts, owner of Pistachios said: "This is devastating for us and the local community particularly being so close to Christmas.

“Some of the toys were going to be given to local children this weekend at a Santa's grotto event and were already wrapped up.

“Other toys were for a soft play area which we were planning next year.

“This a real setback for us and families in the area as we are a real hub of the community particularly for mums who come here to chat and have a coffee while their children play safely."

Sergeant Ed Ripley of Eastbourne neighbourhood policing team added: "This is very distressing for the café owners and local families.

“A large quantity of distinctive wooden toys were stolen.

"If you have any information please contact Sussex Police on 101 quoting serial 263 of 17/12 or email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk.

“Alternatively, call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."

No doubt the usual scum that will be let off with a tap on the hand if they ever get caught which in itself is unlikely
