A vintage bus will be back on the road for charity today.

Brighton and Hove Bus Company’s 1953 Bristol KSW will operate a complete service with a conductor before being handed over to its new owners Seaford and District Motor Services.

The bus, affectionately known as “the old girl”, will service routes five and six around the city in aid of The Argus Appeal and The Martlets Hospice.

Seaford and District Motor Services’ proprietor David Mulpeter said: “The Bristol KSW is an iconic bus to add to our collection of heritage vehicles and we are so pleased to be helping to keep her in the local area where she has worked for many years.”

In return for the bus, Seaford and District Motor Services will be making a donation to The Argus Appeal and The Martlets Hospice.

Brighton and Hove Buses is not receiving any proceeds from the undisclosed sale “fee” but instead inserted a “tie breaker” in its requirements, inviting bidders to make a charitable contribution.

The bus will service the 9.35am Hangleton to Patcham and 10.18am Patcham to Hangleton on route five.

It will also service route six at 1.50pm Brighton station to Sainsbury’s, 2.40pm Sainsbury’s to Brighton station, 3.30pm Brighton station to Sainsbury’s and 4.20pm Sainsbury’s to Brighton station.
