A pensioner is fighting for his life after being hit by a car.

An 81-year-old male pedestrian was involved in a collision with a car travelling along Portland Road in Hove near to the junction with Station Road.

The incident happened yesterday morning at 9.35am as the man was crossing Portland Road from north to south but police have only just released details of the incident today.

The man was injured by a Chrysler Grand Voyager driven by a 29-year-old Southwick woman with two children in the car with her who were all unhurt.

The pedestrian suffered potentially life-threatening head injuries and was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.
