Homeowners are being warned of possible flooding in Sussex as wind and heavy rain hits the county today.

The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for rain from 3pm today until 3pm tomorrow.

Their chief forecaster said: "An area of heavy rain and strong winds is expected to cross the UK from Friday afternoon and through Saturday.  This will bring some locally large rainfall accumulations, particularly on hills, and following previous wet weather is likely to lead to some localised flooding.

"The public should be aware of the potential for disruption from flooding and keep up to date with latest forecasts and warnings from the Met Office, Environment Agency and Natural Resources Wales."

The River Ouse and the River Cuckmere are both on flood alert by the Environment Agency.

A spokesman said: "River levels are falling and Friday will be dry, so the current risk of flooding is very low. However, further rain will reach the area Friday night, and will continue to fall all day Saturday. This Flood Alert is highly likely to be reissued Saturday morning."
