Police are becoming increasingly concerned for the welfare of a family of four - including a five-year-old boy - who could be sleeping rough in Brighton.

The Touray family, a 38-year-old mother and her three children, have not been seen since telling housing office staff in the city that they had nowhere to sleep on Tuesday.

They said they had arrived in Brighton on Monday where they had been due to meet a friend but that the friend had not arrived.

They told housing staff they had slept rough on Monday evening but since speaking to the council workers on Tuesday they have not been seen.

The family are Spanish nationals and include a five-year-old boy and girls aged 12 and 13.

Inspector Tony Lumb said: "Hopefully the Tourays have made contact with the friend they spoke of but we just want to make sure they are safe and well.

"They have not been reported missing but do not speak any English. They had suitcases with them so would be distinctive on the streets.

"If anyone has seen or heard from them please contact us. We would like to speak to them as a matter of urgency just to check they are okay."
