More than 300 Sussex homes are still without power almost a week after power lines were damaged by storms.

Customers who were without power for 48-60 hours including Christmas Day will be eligible for £75 instead of the standard £25 as “gesture of goodwill”, UK Power Networks said.

Additional payments will be made to any customers without power for longer.

Some 300,000 customers across the South East lost power on Monday when high winds struck.

UK Power Networks said most supplies were restored by Christmas Day.

But 326 were still without power across the county this morning and supplies may not be restored until tomorrow.

Director of customer services Matt Rudling said: "This is such a difficult time of year for people to be without power and so many families have also been flooded out of their homes.

“Our hearts go out to our customers and we have been trying different ways to help them, from arranging Christmas dinners to providing more help and tools on our website.

“Many of our staff have cancelled their holidays to join the effort and we won’t rest until the power is back on."
