UPDATE: Severe wind warning extended and more rain to come for Sussex

The Argus: UPDATE: Severe wind warning extended and more rain to come for Sussex UPDATE: Severe wind warning extended and more rain to come for Sussex

Winds of up to 70mph hit Sussex tomorrow and up to 40mm of rain will fall on New Year's Day.

The county is facing another two severe weather warning on the back of last week's storms that left thousands without power and flooded villages.

The Met Office had put out a yellow warning for wind for West Sussex for Monday morning, but that has now been extended to include Brighton and Hove and East Sussex.

A spokesman said: "South to southwesterly gales and locally severe gales will affect western and southern parts of Wales and parts of southwest England during the early hours of Monday, moving east to affect English Channel coastal counties through Monday morning, whilst winds ease from the west later.

"The public should be aware of the risk of disruption to travel, particularly as the gales will be combined by heavy rain in some areas."

And the meteorological group has now issued another separate yellow warning for rain on New Year's Day from 6am to midnight.

The forecast said: "Further rain, heavy at times is expected to spread quickly northeastwards across southwest and parts of southern England on Wednesday.

"Rainfall totals are expected to be widely 10-20 mm, but as much as 30-40 mm over some south facing coasts and hills. South or southwesterly gales with gusts 50-60 mph may also accompany the rain.

"With ground already saturated over much of this area, the public should be aware of the risk of further localised flooding."

The wild weather is due to an active Atlantic frontal system and low pressure moving across the country.

All this bad weather really cant be doing the local business any good, from the start of the year all bank holidays have been raining or strong winds along with a short summer. I hotel manager and other resorts have not hit revenue targets this year...... Next comes the snow and ice that again means more loss of business!
