Flooding at Balcombe halts trains

Flooding is causing new problems on the rail network this afternoon.

Network Rail said flooding at Balcombe meant trains were unable to run between Haywards Heath and Three Bridges until further notice.

Travellers were already facing journeys of more than two hours between coast and capital due to pre-planned engineering works.

The line between Gatwick Airport and London Victoria is closed until January 2 for engineering works with bus replacement services via East Grinstead.

What you need to do is drill a large hole in the ground, force the water in under high pressure, problem solved. There may also be an unexpected by product!

Is this anything to do with all that fracking that was going on? Whether it is or not, I am sure Dr Lucas will make herself yet another front page spread out of it.

Perhaps at some point "Major improvement works" might actually take place at Balcombe Tunnel.
