A brave fundraiser decided to test himself to the limit after his mother was diagnosed with cancer.

Earlier this month Louis Bedwell from Hastings became the youngest person ever to ride a cross trainer for 24 hours.

The 21-year-old of Vale Road started at 11am on Tuesday December 3 and carried on continuously until 11am on Wednesday, December 4.

The challenge formed part of The One Expedition, a year-long series of challenges and adventures and was founded after Louis’ mother was diagnosed with cancer.

During his 24-hour battle, Louis raised £1,200 for Cancer Research UK.

Louis said: “I’ve always said that I wanted to try and complete these events. Mum’s cancer diagnosis gaveme the boost that I needed to go out and do them.

“The cross trainer challenge was incredibly hard. It is the equivalent of running 110-miles just without any movement in your ankles; so very numb feet.

“There were high and low points, especially through the night asmybody began to shut down and I really wanted to be asleep! But the support from the general public was overwhelming.

“And mum’s doing really well too.”

This year Louis also completed the 100km walk from London to Brighton, while he is planning to run the Hastings Half Marathon in 2014 while dragging a weighted sled.

Adding to his list of achievements, he also hopes to complete a skydive while still find time to hold fundraising events.

Chloe Williams, Cancer Research UK’s area volunteer manager, said: “We are absolutely delighted that Louis completed such a great challenge to raise money for Cancer Research UK.”
