Brighton karaoke venue Nine Rooms shuts blaming economic climate
Wannabe Adeles and Lady Gagas have been left disappointed after a karaoke firm was forced to close down after more than three years in operation.
Nine Rooms Karaoke announced to its customers this week that the venue would have to close with immediate effect.
Sources close to the firm told The Argus that the competition with nearby rivals killed the business and that interest in karaoke in Brighton and Hove was not strong enough to sustain the two venues.

Customers with bookings at the venue in Middle Street, Brighton, have been told that they will be honoured with nearby Lucky Voice which is based just a few hundred metres away in Black Lion Street.
Nine Rooms directors Dan Tonkin and Daniel Charlish approached business rescue and recovery firm Begbies Traynor this week with a view to putting the firm into liquidation.
Staff at the firm contacted all customers personally who had bookings in 2014 on Monday informing them of the closure and the negotiated deal with Lucky Voice to honour all existing bookings and deposits taken.
The Facebook post on Monday said: “We are sad to say that Nine Rooms Karaoke closed today.
“After three and half years of fun in Brighton, the economic climate has finally meant we have to call it a day.
“But thank you for all the custom and we hope you enjoyed your evenings with |us.”
The news came as a shock to customers, especially as just a day earlier staff had posted on the same Facebook site: “We hope everyone had a great Christmas, we are looking forward to seeing all for the New Year’s celebrations!”
One customer, who did not wish to be named, told The Argus: “I entered their Facebook competition to win a free Christmas package.
“I won, tried to arrange a date and they kept saying they would get back to confirm time and date I wanted and never did and then I saw via their page that they were closing.
“I am totally gutted as I had many good times there.”
