WEATHER UPDATE: More rain forecast for Sussex as weekend looks to be a washout

The Argus: WEATHER UPDATE: More rain forecast for Sussex as weekend looks to be a washout WEATHER UPDATE: More rain forecast for Sussex as weekend looks to be a washout

The weekend looks set to be a washout as forecasters predicted rain across Saturday and Sunday.

Sussex has already been hit by strong winds, rain, hail, thunder and lightning today.

High tides battered sea defences with flood warnings issued by the Environment Agency in Shoreham and Littlehampton, although most coastal areas managed to resist the rising waters.

But there is still a chance of flooding as the Met Office extended its severe weather warning for rain to stretch across the whole weekend.

On Saturday, a spell of heavy rain is likely to affect southeastern parts of England during the first half of the day clearing eastwards early in the afternoon.

A further 20 to 30 mm of rain is likely in places and much of this could fall within a 6-hour period. Further heavy showers may occur later on Saturday.

On Sunday, outbreaks of rain, heavy at times, will result in 10 to 20 mm of rain falling with in excess of 40 mm possible over some higher ground.

MORE:

With the recent bad weather, it has warned of the possibilities of localised flooding across Sussex.

The Enviornment Agency currently has 18 flood warnings and 94 flood alerts across the south east region.
