A false leg, a premarital agreement and a plastic urn containing ashes are among the weird and wonderful items left behind in hotel rooms by guests.

Bemused housekeeping staff in Brighton and Hove have also stumbled on a lazyboy chair, a half-eaten wedding cake, and a suitcase of cocktail mixers in the past year.

Andy Cornwell, housekeeping manager at Hotel Seattle in Brighton Marina, said: “We have had the usual false teeth and hearing aids left behind but we also had a plastic urn left in a bedroom.

“They didn’t scatter him that well as there was some ashes remaining.

“I don’t know whether the plan was to scatter some in Brighton and then the rest somewhere else.

“We had the ashes in the reception but no one ever came back for the urn.

“I have been doing this for nearly 30 years but I certainly never had |to deal with anything like that before.”

Travelodge said that false legs, wedding pre-nups and a wedding cake from Brighton confectioners Choccywoccydoodah were among the unusual items left behind in their two Brighton hotels in 2013.

The firm said that all items left behind in their hotels not claimed within three months are donated to local charity shops.

Shakila Ahmed, Travelodge spokeswoman, said: “What is becoming evident after speaking to our customers is that the pace of life has become so fast and we are so eager to get from A to B that valuable possessions are easily being forgotten.”

Terence Ferreira, reception manager at Kings Hotel Brighton in King’s Road, said: “We have had people who have actually forgotten their entire set of luggage.

“They get all the way to Gatwick and have to come back because they don’t have their luggage.

“I have no idea how that happens.

“People also leave their sex toys behind but some people do actually come back and ask for them to be returned.”

Staff at another luxury Brighton hotel, which wished to remain anonymous, said it uncovered a rather kinky shopping list in a room this year.

The staff member told The Argus: “I found a shopping list in a room and the first three items were a blindfold, handcuffs and lubricant.

“I just thought ‘why would you put it on a shopping list? You would just tell someone’.”
