A nightclub which featured in a television programme is set to have its licence revoked following claims of sexual assaults and drunken behaviour.

Listing 37 reasons why it should close, Sussex Police claims JJ Whispers failed to prevent crime and disorder as it served alcohol to crowds of up to 700 people.

Among the incidents reported include staff failing to call police after a woman was bitten by her ex and threatened with a brick.

On another occasion, officers claim a reveller at the club had to be stretchered out after vomiting because she had drunk so much.

The club in High Street, Crawley, which featured in Channel 4 programme Up All Night: The Nightclub Toilet, could now close down.

In official papers, police said the club should have its licence revoked “following incidents of drunkenness, sexual assaults and drunk and disorderly behaviour within the premises and in the immediate area”.

The police documents said there had been numerous arrests for offences including assault.

Details of some of the alleged incidents, all of which were detailed in the report, were disturbing and The Argus has chosen not to go into detail about them.

The report said: “Since May 2013 there have been a number of incidents where patrons have been allowed to become so drunk that police intervention has been required.

“On more than one occasion, patrons have required ambulance assistance due to their dangerously high levels of intoxication.”

It continued: “[In May last year] an 18-year-old woman was on the dance floor when a man held his forearm across her throat and forcefully placed his hand up her skirt sexually assaulting her.”

On another occasion a man who had been drinking in the club was nearly knocked over by a vehicle as he left.

There were many incidents of people vomiting, Sussex Police said.

Officers also criticised the club for advertising drinks promotions and on one occasion allegedly showing punters swinging from 28% proof bottles of alcohol on a Facebook video.

It comes after the Channel 4 programme was aired in November, which showed people slapping one another's bottoms, shouting about their private parts and break dancing on the floor near the urinals.

A Sussex Police spokesman said a hearing will take place at Crawley Borough Council in March.

At the time of going to press JJ Whispers had not responded to The Argus.
