Tributes have been paid to a 39-year-old who died after the car he was driving crashed into a tree.

Chef James Hunt, of Hilman Close, Lewes, was killed on January 10 on the A22 in Forest Row.

In a statement Mr Hunt’s family said: "As a family we would like to pay tribute to our loving son, brother and uncle, James Hunt. Nothing can ever replace the emptiness we feel as a result of his sudden and tragic death.

"James was born in Scunthorpe but grew up in Lewes.

“As a child he enjoyed riding his bike but was always falling off, long before the introduction of cycling or skateboard helmets.

"He trained as a chef and enjoyed his work. One of his great pleasures was fishing where he made some memorable catches of some particularly large carp.

"James was very laid back and easy going, he was not always punctual but was loyal and loving.

"James was an integral part of our family and his love, generosity and humour will be missed by us all. He touched many people's lives in such a positive way and we now hope he is at peace.

"We would like to thank our family and friends for all the kindness they have shown us at this difficult time PC Shirley Ross said: "James tragically died following a collision and I would like to appeal to anyone who saw his blue BMW 316 on the A22 just south of Forest Row between 11.30pm and midnight on January 10 to contact us.

“The information they give us could help us in our investigation.”

Call Sussex Police on 101.

What sad news. I played with him when I was a child and although I have seen him for 30 years I immediately recognised him from this picture. May I convey my condolences to his family

So sad to hear this news. I'd not seen James in nearly 25 years but looking at that lovely photo he hadn't changed a bit.
My thoughts are with his family.
god bless, James. Sleep tight. x
