The boss of a mental health trust has spoken about her clinical depression.
Lisa Rodrigues, pictured, chief executive of Sussex Partnership Trust, told staff in a weekly newsletter she had returned to work after a severe bout of the illness.
She said she had returned to work on reduced hours during January and was still on the road to recovery.
Mrs Rodrigues wrote: “Although I’ve had depression before, this is my first period of time off with it for many years.
“I didn’t see it coming, although others did. It has been worse than I can possibly describe here, and I’m still on the road to recovery.”
She added: “But there are positive aspects. I’ve had outstanding treatment and support.
“And I’ve also been reminded of some important truths, including that depression is as much a physical as a mental illness.
“And how skilful, compassionate and hard-working the professionals are who provide mental health services.
“There is a lot of stigma around mental illness. If you see me, or anyone else you know who experiences it, please say hi and ask us how we’re doing. It truly helps.”
Sue Morris will continue as acting chief executive of the trust for the time being.
