Do you live near a Brighton or Hove party house?

Brighton and Hove City Council wants to hear from residents and business owners who live near party houses.

The venues, which cater for stag and hen parties, have attracted a lot of attention over recent months following complaints of anti-social behaviour.

The council has fixed a scrutiny panel meeting to explore the issue – and they want to hear your views. Councillors at the January 28 meeting want to hear about people’s experiences, what they think the problems are and what solutions they would like.

They will also be looking for examples of good practice which can be taken up by party house owners.

Councillor Geoffrey Bowden, who will chair the panel, said: “Properly managed party houses can bring financial benefit to the city contributing to the visitor economy.

“However, some of these premises can give rise to antisocial behaviour and cause a considerable nuisance to local communities.”

To book a slot at the 3pm to 5pm meeting at Hove Town Hall call 01273 290450 or email scrutiny@brighton-hove.gov.uk.

Alternatively just turn up on the day.

No one wants a "party house" next door, or even nearby. These "venues" should be subject to planning permission for change of use.

Agree with you Jim.
They are businesses and the council wouldn't give permission for a 24 hour pizza take away to open in a residential street.
The council need to try harder with this one.

Indeed, instead of getting everyone to grass everyone up they should do what we pay them for and get off their ar5es and take on the difficult stuff, not just sitting around trying to dream up how they can waste more and more of our money before they get booted into political oblivion.

Sussex Police have worked with the council in the past and used anti social behaviour order powers to take possession of homes from owners so I am baffled as to why these powers have not been used.
These powers have been used where owners have allowed drug dealing and noise and the homes are boarded up and the owners refused permission to enter. The residents should continually report issues to the police so such an order can be used.

My stag do was a day at the Brighton races followed by a fish supper on the pier and a mild booze up around the Lanes. It was 1973, but a blooming good night!

Why do these chavs want to do cocaine and get prostitutes?

I blame the Greens!
