A Rustington woman told an Indonesian court she had brought shame on her country as it recommended a 16-year jail term for smuggling crystal meth into the country.

Andrea Waldeck, who once worked as a police community support officer in Gloucestershire, had faced the prospect of a death sentence for smuggling 3lb of the drug.

The sentence itself will be passed in a few weeks. Prosecutors have also called for a 2bn rupiah (£100,000) fine. Waldeck's lawyer told the court she was not the mastermind behind the smuggling operation.

As well as a lengthy jail term, prosecutors have called for the imposition of a 2bn rupiah (£100,000) fine.

Waldeck was arrested at a hotel in East Java in April last year.
