Sharp rise in bookings for London to Brighton Classic Car Run
Updated 3:59pm Wednesday 22nd January 2014 in News
Hundreds of classic cars will travel from Greenwich to Brighton on June 1.
Bookings for this year's Classic Car Run are up 120% on this time last year, with organisers anticipating more than 300 vehicles will make the journey which ends with a new classic car show on the seafront.
GE Classic Motor Event director, Stephen Smith, said: “The interest in this year's event is exceptionally high. The Classic Run is rapidly filling.”
The run is open to cars more than 25-years-old and the oldest vehicle signed up so far is a 1934 Rover 12 Sports Saloon, which cost just £298 when it was launched.
The vehicle features a 1496cc four-cylinder engine pushing out 53bhp through a four-speed transmission incorporating a novel free-wheel mechanism.
Mr Smith said: “It is especially satisfying that they are increasingly being joined by many pre-war cars.
“We are delighted to welcome all classic, vintage and veteran vehicles on the Classic Run.”
Participants are encouraged to dress in period and to be eligible for the Best Dressed award.
