Hundreds of residents have backed a campaign to scrap Sunday parking charges across Brighton and Hove.
To date, 645 people have signed the petition calling for Brighton and Hove City Council to offer free parking in its car parks and on-street bays.
Liberal Democrats, who were behind the call, believe it will help boost trade and tourism by making the city “more welcoming” to visitors.
Jeremy Gale, who will stand for the Lib Dems in Central Hove at the next election, said: “The campaign is very much |in its infancy and to have received such strong support so early on is very encouraging indeed.
“What is clear, even at this early stage, is that residents are deeply unhappy with the Green administration’s policy on parking and the obscene amount of revenue that it generates.
“The Lib Dems are offering a viable and affordable alternative to what the current administration is delivering and, over the coming weeks, we’ll continue campaigning for a change in policy.”
