Cirque Berserk is a theatrical spectacle featuring world class international circus stars that Zippos have spliced together to form a generically crowd-pleasing, traditionally structured indoor circus show.

It’s fast and fun with great aerialists, powerful acrobats, the award-winning Tweedy The Clown, nail-biting knife throwing and Hercules – possibly the most testosterone-fuelled strong man act on the planet.

But where the show fails to deliver is on the promise of the advance publicity as it bears little (or no) resemblance to the Cirque Berserk that proliferates across the internet. The edgy, post-modern PC-challenging, saucy, steam punk aesthetic born from the creative anarchy of the Burning Man Festival has unfortunately been distilled down to a small group of alluring burlesque showgirls who dance (albeit gorgeously) in between a series of entirely unrelated acts.

Not even the super-cool death-defying Globe Of Death can conceal that this lack of creative core leaves the show somewhat bereft of substance and falling well short of the artistic aspirations of other better contemporary new circus companies.

That said, if it’s an evening of cabaret with top notch skills you fancy, packaged together in a slick and sexy production, there’s plenty here to get your heart pumping.
