The A23 road widening scheme is on schedule to be completed later this year as the project passes a significant milestone.

This week during four overnight closures, the A23 between Handcross and Warninglid road layout will be changed to move traffic from the southbound carriageway over to the newly constructed northbound carriageway.

The southbound entry slip road at Handcross will be closed until this summer.

The A23 is being widened between Handcross and Warninglid to improve journeys and safety on this vital link.

The northbound carriageway will be closed overnight tonight and tomorrow between 8pm and 6am with northbound traffic transferred to the rebuilt southbound carriageway.

The following two nights will involve preparations for the southbound traffic to move onto the northbound carriageway which will happen on Sunday night.

The southbound carriageway will be closed overnight on Saturday and Sunday.

By Monday, all traffic will be running in a contraflow on the new northbound carriageway with narrow lanes, a 40mph limit and average speed cameras still operational.
