You're clearly very angry. But it was an accident. No one intentionally sets out to cause an accident. We can talk bus lanes. We can also say there should be footbridges along Lewes road. But out of respect to Cecilia, please keep comments respectful and positive.

I just want to add how lucky we are to have not only people like the lady who held the girl's hand amongst us. But also the emergency services who attended so quickly and professionally. They were terrific and did all they could. Them alongside the NHS represent the very best of this country and are the pride of the UK.

Bendy Bus God says...

Whilst it's very sad that someone has died I must say that I see so many people, students especially, wandering aimlessly out into the road. As in this case, she wondered out without checking and was distracted. One of the first things you learn as a child is to STOP, LOOK & LISTEN. That stretch of road is straight, plenty of visibility so the bus could hardly have sprung up out of the blue. The new layout has nothing to do with this accident either. If you don't check the road before stepping out then there is a good chance you'll get run over.

I feel for the bus driver most as through no fault of his own he will have to live with this for the rest of his life.

Agree, I passed her just after the accident occurred and when I placed flowers at the point she crossed the road, the road is not straight, I couldn't see pass the bus stop there. It's a tragic accident. The police will decide what happened

Whilst it is very sad that such young lady has lost her life & my thoughts are with her family at this tragic time also to shock that the bus driver must be going through too.

However It is to do with the road layout of Lewes road the traffic was bumper to bumper along the traffic lane & so some people think as that lane is stationary then they take it as being safe to cross but not thinking about the uncongested bus lane in which buses are still driving down so as she crossed & passed the stationary cars she sadly walked into the bus lane just as bus was coming down the inside of the stationary traffic in the outer lane in traffic law it is generally prohibited for fast moving traffic to be undertaking you on the motorway if a vehicle did this & was seen by police it would not be ignored & would be seen as driving with due care so the blame of the Lewes road layout lies squarely with the councils road planning department even as a driver it's lethal with buses & taxi's carving you up in just about every direction possible also one needs to ask before this Lewes road was altered it had a pretty good record because with two traffic lanes always moving you can better judge your crossing time but when one lane is active shielded by a stationary lane of traffic it's a recipe for a disaster it cost £4.9 million & now they say it needs resurfacing so they will be spending yet more millions to do this work as well now.
